Europolis is a story about the rise and fall of Sulina, a town located at the Danube Delta. In a century of magnificent growth and wealth, its unique geographical position made it the capital of European river shipping.
The Danube carries goods, thoughts, ideas, and memories across Europe. In Sulina, they once stranded before flowing out into the rest of the world. However, this grandeur was abruptly destroyed by Ceaușescu’s megalomaniacal experiments.
"It is a story of a unique cemetery where English sailors, French cooks, Austrian officials, Greek pirates, and Turkish soldiers share their final resting place in peaceful harmony."
The personal memories and oral legends that form the basis of the film.
Since Byzantine times, the trade of salt for the "treasures of the East" formed the foundation of Austria's prosperity. This long river path remains a symbol of connection across the European continent.
The very first Bulgarian-Austrian co-product. Made possible in this instance by a change in the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
